Middle School will focus on writing and grammar throughout the year, working together in centers and focusing on common core standards for each grade level.
Grammar and Conventions: Students will develop and advance skills in spelling, punctuation, parts of speech, verb tense, and sentence types to create better writing, listening and speaking.
Vocabulary: Using Vocabulary Workshop workbook, students will learn and advance their knowledge of multiple meanings, synonyms, antonyms, prefixes, suffixes, parts of speech, and use context clues to broaden their oral expressions, writing, and speaking skills.
Writing: Students will focus on the writing process, sentence structure, and types of writing, such as narrative, expository, persuasive, and descriptive while focusing on proofreading and editing skills, allowing students to apply their knowledge of conventions and appropriate use of grammar.
Jennifer Smith graduated from Mercyhurst College with a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. She received her Master’s in Special Education from Edinboro University.
Jennifer has experience working with children from preschool age to high school. She has subbed in Erie School District, Millcreek School District, Harbor Creek School District, and has worked in the community as a Behavior Specialist.
Jennifer enjoys teaching in Catholic Schools because she, herself, had attended catholic schools for grade school, high school, and college. Now, Jennifer’s three children attend St. Jude School, and loves being a part of the St. Jude Community as a teacher and parent.
