The Saint George School kindergarten program offers an early childhood program to help children develop their academic and social skills in a creative, nurturing environment. 

Kindergarten classes are located in our Early Childhood Development Center, a wing of Saint George School designed especially for younger students. Each kindergarten classroom is equipped with a lavatory, sink and other facilities to accommodate the age group.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The dedicated staff and faculty of Saint George School offer instruction in areas such as:
  • Language arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social studies

Children participate in daily hands-on activities to develop their motor skills and increase their interest in and understanding of the world around them. Music, library, computer, and art are also important components of this program. The kindergarten curriculum of Saint George School includes weekly classes in physical education and daily instruction in activities designed to raise the children’s awareness of people and cultures. Children must be five years of age by September 1 to register for the SGS kindergarten program.

SGS Kindergarten Philosophy

The philosophy of the Saint George School kindergarten program is driven by encouragement and positive reinforcement of the students and their efforts. As a result, children learn to feel good about themselves and the school environment. Our priority is the development of the child as a whole.

Program Details

When enrolled in the Saint George School kindergarten program, snacks are provided daily where students take turns bringing in the snack, so a monthly schedule will be sent home. 

Please advise us if your child has allergies, especially food allergies. In the case of food allergies, we will monitor what your child eats. It is encouraged to send alternate snacks if your child’s allergy is serious. The Saint George School nurse will administer medication. Parents must fill out a medication form and the medication must be in the original container. Full-Day kindergarten children may purchase lunch from the school cafeteria or choose to bring one from home. Lunch menus will also be sent home monthly.

Children enrolled in the Saint George School kindergarten program are required to wear the school uniform. Although children may wear casual or dress clothes on their birthday. They also do not have to wear the uniform on their designated gym day. They may wear play clothes and sneakers. Full-Day kindergarten children will need to bring a towel to school for quiet time. Children may look at books, color, draw or write during this time. Lights are out and calming music is played. 

Hours

Full-Day Kindergarten: 8:00 am – 2:50 pm

Children enrolled in the Saint George School kindergarten program may arrive between 7:40 a.m. and 8:10 am. There will be a patrol on duty each morning to oversee the children until the kindergarten teacher arrives to take them to the classroom. At the end of the day, the teacher will dismiss the children at the Georgian Way Exit. If your child is sick, or will not be in attendance at school, please call the school absentee line at 814-864-4821, press 1 and leave your information. A written excuse is required when your child returns.

Kindergarten Camp Orientation

Once enrolled in the Saint George School kindergarten program, your child is invited to our Kindergarten Camp Orientation, held in August one week prior to the start of the school year. At this time the children and teachers spend time together and answer questions for the new school year. You'll receive a letter in August regarding the date & time. We look forward to seeing you and your children in the fall & to an exciting school year!
